The Airports Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ) has highlighted the strategic importance of Charles Prince Airport in the country’s evolving landscape.

In a post on its Facebook page, ACZ said, Charles Prince Airport situated about six kilometers northwest of Harare is pivotal in the nation’s economic development and aviation space.

“Its unique location and infrastructure make it an indispensable asset for fostering economic growth and facilitating trade within Zimbabwe and across the region.”

According to ACZ, the airport’s proximity to the new city and parliament building in Mount Hampden positions it as a key gateway for both administrative and economic activities. “This strategic location places it in close proximity to Zimbabwe’s burgeoning New City & the newly constructed Parliament building in Mount Hampden, thereby enhancing its role in the nation’s evolving urban fabric,” added ACZ.

One of the airport’s standout features is the railway line that passes directly by its perimeter, providing unparalleled multimodal connectivity. “This unique feature offers significant benefits for trade facilitation, enabling seamless intermodal transfers of cargo and streamlining logistics for air freight,” said ACZ. “The direct rail access streamlines logistics for air freight, providing an efficient conduit for the movement of goods, thereby reducing transit times and operational costs for businesses involved in import and export.”

The airport is currently undergoing significant upgrades to elevate it to international standards. “The ongoing expansion initiatives will further enhance its capacity to handle increased air traffic and a wider range of aircraft types, solidifying its role as a vital component of Zimbabwe’s aviation infrastructure,” said ACZ.

As a hub for light aircraft, flight training organizations such as CATS Aviation Training Academy, and charter operators, Charles Prince Airport is set to play a vital role in Zimbabwe’s aviation sector. “The airport’s strategic location and unique railway access make it an indispensable asset for fostering economic growth and facilitating trade within Zimbabwe and across the region,” concluded ACZ.

With its strategic location, unique railway access, and ongoing expansion initiatives, Charles Prince Airport is poised to boost Zimbabwe’s aviation and trade, driving economic growth and development in the region.
