An evening of refined Indian cuisine and warm hospitality unfolded at the iconic Hyatt Regency Harare, the famous five star Hyatt Regency Harare The Meikles where a solo dining experience turned into a celebration of flavor, ambience and impeccable service.
Arriving promptly at 6:30 pm, this writer was welcomed at the entrance by a courteous security officer whose professionalism immediately set the tone for the night. The short walk into the hotel and up to the elegant Pool Bar revealed an atmosphere of calm sophistication. There, Restaurant Supervisor Mugove T. Chikomba received guests with a beaming smile, while the waiters such as Fidelis Natalia ensured attentive and seamless service throughout the evening, contributing to a relaxed and inviting setting.

The highlight was a specially curated three-course Indian meal prepared by the chef Kader Sekh, whose expertise in Indian cuisine was evident in every bite. The culinary journey began with Murgh Tikka, tender pieces of grilled chicken served with a refreshing mint sauce. Smoky, juicy and rich in authentic spices, the starter delivered a heavenly burst of flavor that immediately awakened the palate.
For the main course, a succulent Butter Chicken took center stage, accompanied by a choice of chapatti or aromatic basmati rice. The chicken was immersed in a creamy tomato-based sauce that was rich and delicately spiced. While both accompaniments complemented the dish beautifully, the chapatti proved particularly satisfying, effortlessly soaking up the luxurious sauce and enhancing the overall experience.
Dessert arrived in the form of Rasmalai, a soft milk-soaked delicacy delicately sprinkled with nuts and saffron. Light yet indulgent, it provided a sweet and memorable conclusion to the meal.

The Pool Bar itself, overlooking the sparkling pool, remains one of the hotel’s most attractive features. Even local non-resident visitors are drawn to its beauty and luxurious ambience. On this particular evening, the setting was lively yet intimate, with several elegantly dressed groups celebrating birthdays and enjoying selections from the à la carte menu while some were specifically having an elegant high tea. Far from feeling solitary, the solo dinner blended naturally into the celebratory mood around the poolside bar.
A visit to the rooftop area which itself boasts of a beautiful flowery garden offered breathtaking views of the city skyline and a glimpse of nearby Africa Unity Square, where florists displayed colorful blooms below. The panoramic scene added another layer of charm to the night.
As the evening progressed, the sounds of Afro-jazz melodies drifted from the Explorer Bar near the reception. Inside, the live band Vera and The Husbands serenaded diners, continuing a tradition of Saturday night performances for hotel guests.
From the warm welcome at the door to the exceptional table service and live entertainment, the hotel demonstrated why it proudly maintains its five-star reputation. With Valentine’s Day approaching, it is certain to be one of the city’s most sought-after venues. Whether dining alone or in company, guests are assured of an experience defined by elegance, flavor and heartfelt hospitality which one can mistakenly identify as a place heaven above.
