On March 20, 2025, Japan’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Shinichi Yamanaka, hosted a high-profile stakeholders’ reception in Harare to discuss Zimbabwe’s participation in Expo 2025 Osaka. The gathering, which brought together over 60 dignitaries, accentuated Zimbabwe’s ongoing preparations and its ambitions to showcase its economic, cultural, and tourism potential to a global audience.
The reception was attended by prominent government officials, including Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Hon. Dr. Sheillah Chikomo, Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Hon. Mrs. Barbara Rwodzi, and Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce, Hon. Mr. Rajeshkumar Indukant Modi.
Ambassador Yamanaka expressed deep appreciation for Zimbabwe’s efforts in preparing for the Expo and emphasized Japan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. He noted that Zimbabwe’s presence at Expo 2025 would be a valuable opportunity to present the country’s vast potential in investment, innovation, and tourism to the world.
Deputy Minister Chikomo reiterated Zimbabwe’s enthusiasm for the upcoming Expo, emphasizing that it aligns with the nation’s broader strategy to boost trade, attract investors, and foster international collaboration. Hon. Barbara Rwodzi also stressed the importance of using such a global platform to promote Zimbabwe as a leading travel destination in Africa.
To add a cultural experience to the reception, guests were served takoyaki, a popular Japanese delicacy from Osaka. The well received gesture, symbolized the fusion of Zimbabwean and Japanese cultures and reinforcing the spirit of collaboration between the two nations.
With Expo 2025 Osaka set to run from April to October under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” Zimbabwe has been actively ramping up its engagement strategies. The country recently launched its official Expo 2025 pavilion website and a dedicated mobile application, demonstrating a modern and technology-driven approach to global promotion .
Commissioner General for the Expo, Mr. Allan Majuru, has expressed confidence in Zimbabwe’s ability to maximize its presence at the event. He highlighted that Expo 2025 presents a unique chance to showcase “Brand Zimbabwe” and attract key stakeholders in trade, tourism, and industry
Furthermore, media and government officials have encouraged national support for the Expo, emphasizing its role in advancing Zimbabwe’s economic diplomacy and positioning the country as an emerging investment hub.
As preparations gain momentum, Zimbabwe is poised to make a lasting impact at Expo 2025 Osaka.
