Wild Africa has unveiled “ZBC’s Wild Africa Adventures,” billed as the continent’s first weekly wildlife conservation magazine show. The announcement came on 30 June 2026, introducing a 13-episode series that blends storytelling with education to spotlight conservation efforts across Africa.
Hosted by Rumbie Takawira, Dr Mark Ofua, and Zandile Ndhlovu, the programme follows grassroots initiatives and the individuals driving them forward. Several high-profile figures make appearances throughout the run, including Black Panther actors Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong’o, performer Djimon Hounsou, musician Focalistic, comedian Josh2Funny, and gospel artist Amani. Viewers will also encounter some of the continent’s most distinctive species, ranging from forest elephants in Nigeria and slender-snouted crocodiles in Ghana to ground pangolins in Namibia and black rhinos in South Africa.
Designed specifically with African viewers in mind, the show will be distributed across multiple broadcasters continent-wide, aiming to underscore the urgency of habitat and species protection. Statistics cited in connection with the launch note that monitored wildlife populations across Africa have dropped by 76 percent over the past five decades, while roughly 3.9 million hectares of forest disappear annually.
The opening episode centres on a sea turtle rescue operation in Nigeria, Nyong’o’s encounter with elephants in Kenya, and conservationists working to safeguard Namibia’s elusive pangolins. Subsequent instalments turn to Zimbabwe-based stories, among them Gurira touring the nation’s national parks, a profile of the all-female Akashinga anti-poaching unit, chilli farming as a tool for easing human-elephant coexistence, the work of Painted Dog Conservation in protecting endangered African wild dogs, and community-led efforts through the Tikobane Trust to reduce conflict between people and wildlife.
The series was produced out of Cape Town by Wild Africa, with backing from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and the Tammy Estrada Strome Foundation.
Peter Knights OBE, Wild Africa’s CEO and the show’s series producer, described Africa’s wildlife heritage as a point of pride tied closely to the tourism sector, saying the programme highlights the passion, obstacles, and achievements of those working to protect it.
Azzedine Downes, President and CEO of IFAW, called the series a powerful showcase of Africa’s natural splendour as seen through the eyes of conservationists on the ground, adding that it inspires renewed commitment to environmental stewardship.
Farai Chapoterera, Wild Africa’s Country Manager for Zimbabwe, emphasised that conservation extends beyond science and enforcement to the people behind it — their decisions, principles, and the legacy they pass on.
Charles Munganasa, ZBC’s Director of Content and Channels, noted that the broadcaster has pledged to devote at least a quarter of its programming to stories reflecting Zimbabwe’s rich natural environment.
“ZBC’s Wild Africa Adventures” premieres on ZBC in July, immediately following World Cup coverage.
