A wave of cultural revival is sweeping through the country as Harare prepares to host the inaugural Reggae Roadblock on Friday, 30 May 2025, at the Green Screen Cinema Jam Tree entrance. Set to become a quarterly feature on the city’s cultural calendar, this dynamic event will spotlight Zimbabwe’s reggae heritage and its enduring global resonance.
Reggae Roadblock is a high impact cultural diplomacy initiative designed to unite audiences across borders and backgrounds. Inspired by Bob Marley’s legendary 1980 performance at Zimbabwe’s independence celebrations, the event seeks to reclaim reggae’s revolutionary roots and reassert its power as a tool for unity and social commentary in an increasingly fragmented world.
The lineup features some of Zimbabwe’s most celebrated reggae voices: Ras Trevor Hall, Buhle, Jr Bantan, Mannex Motsi, Mr Muffin, Sniper Storm, Dino Mudondo, Helgah, and Satisfaction. Each artist is going to perform alongside the legendary House of Stone Band. Veteran entertainer MC J Boss will serve as the event’s host, adding his charismatic flair to an already electric stage.

As reggae often blends music with message, Reggae Roadblock goes further by integrating fashion into the mix. Coinciding with Africa Day week, the concert will also celebrate the continent’s creative identity.
All performing artists will be dressed by a distinguished roster of Zimbabwean fashion designers: Nandi Larethi, Ruby’s Touch Designs, Jerry of Revenge Fashion Zim, George Takora, Tunga Tumaz, Fungai Tanyaradzwa–Black Gem, Mae_vis, Clessy Designs, Kishimah Couture by Hilda Marinda, and Alfonce Marivadzi of Mike Chanel Redefined. This fashion-forward collaboration is intended to amplify Zimbabwe’s creative economy and spotlight local talent on a national and international stage.

For diplomatic missions, NGOs, and corporate stakeholders, Reggae Roadblock presents an opportunity to engage directly with Zimbabwean youth culture, while supporting a platform rooted in inclusion, heritage, and innovation. Sponsorship packages offer brand exposure, product integration, and alignment with a grassroots movement that bridges entertainment and empowerment.
Future editions of the concert will explore collaborations with international reggae artists and are expected to reach diaspora audiences through digital broadcasts.
- At its core, Reggae Roadblock is a celebration of unity, creativity, and identity. As Zimbabwe rediscovers its voice through roots reggae, the world is invited to listen in.
It will be One mic. One band. One stage. One love.
