Cimas Health Group has officially opened registration for the third edition of its flagship innovation challenge, the Cimas Healthathon 3.0, calling on Zimbabwean innovators to develop practical, technology-driven solutions aimed at addressing some of the country’s most pressing healthcare challenges.
The initiative, launched under the theme “Reimagining Healthcare Through Disruptive Innovation, seeks to harness the creativity and expertise of innovators from across the country to improve healthcare access, affordability, efficiency and patient outcomes.
The competition is open to a broad range of participants, including innovation hubs, start-ups, university technology teams, software developers and product innovators. Organisers say the challenge is designed to encourage the development of scalable solutions capable of transforming the healthcare landscape in Zimbabwe.
According to Cimas Health Group, participants will be required to convert their ideas into workable minimum viable products (MVPs) that address critical issues affecting the healthcare sector. Key focus areas include fragmented health data systems, limited access to healthcare services, preventive healthcare interventions, service delivery inefficiencies and enhancing the overall patient experience.
The launch of the Healthathon comes at a time when healthcare providers worldwide are increasingly embracing digital transformation to improve service delivery and expand access to care. Zimbabwe’s health sector has also witnessed growing interest in innovative technologies that can bridge existing gaps in healthcare provision, particularly in underserved communities.
By bringing together technology experts, entrepreneurs and young innovators, Cimas Health Group hopes to stimulate the development of solutions that can contribute meaningfully to the future of healthcare in Zimbabwe.
To encourage participation and reward outstanding innovation, organisers have set aside cash prizes totalling US$7,000. The winning team will receive US$3,500, while the first and second runners-up will be awarded **US$2,000** and US$1,500, respectively.
The Healthathon has become an important platform for nurturing innovation within Zimbabwe’s healthcare ecosystem, providing participants with an opportunity not only to compete for funding but also to showcase solutions that have the potential to make a tangible impact on people’s lives.
Applications for the competition will remain open until 12 July 2026. Interested innovators are encouraged to register through Cimas Health Group’s website and social media platforms.
