The Netherlands Embassy in Zimbabwe has launched a strategic partnership with Community Water Alliance (CWA) to enhance water conservation efforts in communities affected by mining activities.

This initiative, which involves local residents’ associations and community groups, will focus on Goromonzi, Buhera, and Hwedza to safeguard vital ecosystems and ensure sustainable water management.

The collaboration aims to equip communities with the tools and knowledge needed to protect their water sources. The Netherlands, a global leader in water management, has been actively supporting Zimbabwe’s water and climate initiatives, funding various projects in Masvingo, Bulawayo, Mutare, and Harare.

As part of the partnership, CWA, along with representatives from Malawi’s Action for Environmental Sustainability (AFES), visited the Buhera Women Farmers Association to exchange best practices in climate-smart agriculture. Discussions centered on sustainable farming techniques, conservation agriculture, and organic fertilizer production, helping smallholder farmers improve their resilience to climate change.

Additionally, the delegation toured Monavale Vlei, a Ramsar-protected wetland that serves as a key water source for Harare, to explore conservation strategies.

To address urban waste challenges, CWA collaborated with Glenview residents in a cleanup drive at Makomva Shopping Centre, with participation from the Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province. The event emphasized the importance of the 4R model—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Recover—to manage waste effectively, improve public health, and combat climate change.

The Netherlands Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Zimbabwe in tackling water and sanitation challenges through strong partnerships with local organizations. This initiative with CWA is a crucial step toward creating more resilient and environmentally sustainable communities.
