Every October, as purple petals carpet the streets of Harare, the city braces itself for more than just the change of season. The Jacaranda Music Festival has become synonymous with the bloom, a celebration of sound and spirit that draws together thousands of people from all walks of life. This year’s edition, set for 3 to 5 October at Thornpark Polo Grounds, is promising to be the most vibrant yet.

Organised by Ngoma Nehosho, the festival has grown since its 2018 debut into a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s cultural calendar. “Jacaranda is not just a festival, it’s a gathering of souls,” said festival director Walter Wanyanya. “We bring artists, fans and industry leaders into one space, and what emerges is magic.”

The 2025 line-up reflects that vision, offering a rich mix of household names and rising voices. Friday’s opening night features EXQ, Jazzworx & Thukuthela, Ace Frvr, DJ Sox, DJ Spunj and MadeHerBelieve. Saturday adds power and rhythm with Masa Caroleen, Kyla Blac, Jinger Stone, Enzo Ishall, Msiz’kay, Diamond Musica, Candeleros and Vusi Nova. On Sunday, audiences will experience soulful performances from Noluantu J, Chucknosis, The Soil, Melyssa and Boohle.

For many fans, the draw goes beyond the headline acts. “Last year I discovered artists I had never heard before, and they blew me away,” said 22-year-old student Tendai Chikowore. “Jacaranda is where you find tomorrow’s stars.”

The festival also offers a space for learning through pre-event workshops and industry sessions. These forums allow aspiring musicians to interact directly with producers, managers and corporate sponsors. “It’s one of the few platforms where young talent can gain access to professional advice while also being inspired by performances on the big stage,” noted music blogger Samantha Nyathi.

With ticket sales already underway at Café Nush outlets and Techtools Gadget Garage, organisers are urging fans to secure their spots early. Demand is expected to be high, with previous editions selling out well before the first note was played.

As Harare prepares to welcome visitors from across the region, the Jacaranda Music Festival once again promises a weekend where colour, rhythm and community blend under the city’s iconic purple trees. For three days, the Thornpark Polo Grounds will host a concert that will hold the heartbeat of a city.
