Cimas Health Group has urged Zimbabweans to take charge of their health by embracing regular exercise, good nutrition, and active living, as nearly 300 cyclists took part in the Pedal to Wellness ride in Borrowdale on Saturday.

The event, hosted through the group’s iGo wellness division, was held under the theme “Promoting Heart Health & Active Lifestyles,” in line with World Heart Day commemorations set for September 29.

Cimas iGo Head, Dr. Nicola Misi, said the initiative was not just about sport but about encouraging everyday habits that can prevent chronic illnesses.

“Good health is built on small daily choices. Exercising regularly, including activities such as cycling, helps strengthen the heart and improve overall wellness,” Dr. Misi said. “At Cimas iGo we want to see families making wellness a lifestyle. This is why we invest in programmes that inspire people to move, eat better, and stay healthy.”

She stressed that lifestyle-related diseases such as hypertension and diabetes remain on the rise in Zimbabwe, but these can be managed or even prevented with consistent health-conscious practices.

“Cycling is one of the simplest ways to stay fit. It is enjoyable, sustainable, and can be done with friends or family. The key is consistency, because good health is not an event , it is a lifestyle,” Dr. Misi added.

The Pedal to Wellness ride featured three categories; a 45km and 22.5km route for adults and a 4.5km fun ride for children. Finishers received medals while marshals, assisted by police officers, ensured the routes were safe and smooth.

Families, corporate teams, and fitness enthusiasts turned out in large numbers, showing the growing popularity of cycling as a sport and a recreational activity. With registration fees starting from just US$10  and children under 13 riding for free. The event has become a platform for Cimas to advocate for preventive health and inspire collective community wellness.
