The concert, organized by Delta Beverages’ Chibuku brand and the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ), commemorated 25 years of nurturing homegrown talent.
Ten provincial finalist bands competed for the coveted national title, each representing their province and offering a unique blend of sounds ranging from Afro-fusion to Sungura and traditional contemporary music. The six-member Afro-fusion group, led by Charles Chakanetsa, captivated the judges and audience alike with their original songs Chitima, Tovera, and Mwene Webhawa. Their strong harmonies, confident stagecraft, and dynamic arrangements set them apart, earning them the top prize of US$15,000, a recording contract, and sponsorship for their upcoming album launch.
All in One from Mashonaland West were named first runners-up, taking home US$10,000, while Simuniziva from Matabeleland North placed third with US$7,000. Chitima Band’s victory was met with roaring applause, as the group pledged to build on their success and continue producing uplifting music that reflects Zimbabwean identity.
Once the winners were announced, the event turned into a grand musical celebration. Top artists including Winky D, Killer T, Feli Nandi, Saintfloew, Nisha Ts, Travellers Band, Kweseka Band, and Ndunge Yut delivered electrifying performances that kept the crowd on their feet late into the night.
