The road to the much-anticipated National Braai Day on 18 October at Glamis Arena is already sizzling, thanks to the Castle Braai micro-braais making their way across Zimbabwe. The series of events, designed to build momentum for the big day, has so far proven to be a resounding success, drawing thousands of fun-loving Zimbabweans to celebrate beer, barbecue, and music.
On Saturday, 13 October, Chitungwiza residents thronged The Monkey Shoulder for an unforgettable night of affordable beer, braais, and top-notch entertainment. Rotating DJs kept the energy high before dancehall musician Uncle Epatan took to the stage, bringing along a few promising newcomers. But the night truly came alive when Voltz JT stepped up. The Chitungwiza-born star, who often references the NOP area in his music, stole the show with a set that had the packed crowd singing along to every lyric and shouting out special requests. The electric night closed out with a powerful set by the Mbare hit-making crew Chill Spot.
The Castle Braai party then shifted gears and headed to Chipiwa Gardens in Marondera on Sunday, proving that weekday preparations could wait when there’s a good braai on the table. Over 2,000 people turned up to enjoy their favorite beers and the signature Castle Braai vibe. DJ Andreas kept spirits high with an extended set, bridging the gap as the audience eagerly waited for Nisha Ts to perform.
After a three-hour delay, the Delta team quickly reshuffled the lineup, calling on ExQ and his band to keep the crowd entertained. The multi-award-winning superstar, supported by DJ Tamuka and his energetic dancers, turned Chipiwa Gardens into a massive sing-along, delivering a show-stopping performance that had fans screaming for more.
When Nisha Ts finally arrived, her entourage caused a stir after a member of her team, identified as Nohlahla, publicly berated the organizers. Despite the dramatic entrance, Nisha Ts performed for 40 minutes but was asked to return to the stage to complete her contracted hour-long set which she did, closing off the night on a high note.
With micro-braais planned in 10 cities nationwide, the Castle Braai roadshow is promising even bigger parties leading up to the ultimate National Braai Day celebration at Glamis Arena. If the Chitungwiza and Marondera editions are anything to go by, October 18 is shaping up to be Zimbabwe’s biggest braai party of the year.
