Palestine Urges International Accountability Amid Escalating Crisis

The State of Palestine has issued a strong condemnation of the latest storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and groups of extremist settlers, an act carried out under the protection of Israeli occupation forces. Palestinian officials have described the incursion as a blatant provocation and a severe breach of the historical and legal status quo governing Jerusalem’s holy sites.

In a statement issued today, Palestinian Ambassador Dr. Tamer Almassri called the incident “a flagrant violation of international law” and a “direct assault on the religious sanctity and cultural heritage shared by billions of Muslims and Christians around the world.” He warned that the continued disregard for international norms and systematic targeting of sacred spaces risks plunging the region into a broader conflict.

“This is not an isolated event,” Ambassador Almassri emphasized. “It is part of a series of deliberate provocations, including attacks on Christian institutions and calls for the annexation of Palestinian territories, that are pushing the region toward a dangerous tipping point.”

The storming of the Al-Aqsa compound, one of Islam’s holiest sites, comes amid heightened tensions in Jerusalem and the occupied Palestinian territories. Palestinian authorities have warned that such actions are designed to inflame religious sensitivities and undermine efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace in the region.

Ambassador Almassri also drew urgent attention to the protracted humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, where Israeli military operations and an ongoing blockade have, according to Palestinian estimates, resulted in the deaths of over 60,000 people, including the reported killing of 28 children per day. More than 12,000 civilians are believed to remain buried beneath rubble.

“For over 660 days, Gaza has endured relentless bombardment and deliberate starvation tactics,” Almassri said. “This is not a war — it is the systemic annihilation of a people under occupation. The silence of the international community in the face of such atrocities is both shameful and dangerous.”

Palestine is now urging the international community, particularly diplomatic and legal institutions, to take immediate and concrete measures to hold Israel accountable for what it describes as war crimes and violations of international humanitarian law.

“The inaction and silence of world powers have emboldened Israel to act with impunity,” the statement continued. “This complicity must end. The international community must move beyond statements of concern and adopt enforceable measures to protect the Palestinian people and uphold international law.”

Palestinian officials have reiterated their call for urgent international intervention, including the deployment of international observers to Jerusalem, sanctions on those responsible for incitement and violence, and renewed diplomatic efforts to safeguard the sanctity of religious sites.

As tensions continue to escalate across the region, the State of Palestine warns that the window for diplomacy is rapidly narrowing — and that without firm international action, the consequences may be devastating not just for Palestinians and Israelis, but for regional and global stability.
