Palestine Condemns Israeli Law Allowing Prisoner Executions

The Embassy of the State of Palestine has strongly condemned recent legislation passed by the Israeli Knesset permitting the execution of Palestinian prisoners, describing the move as a serious violation of international law and a threat to fundamental human rights. In an official statement, the Embassy said the law represents a “flagrant breach” of global legal frameworks designed to protect individuals under occupation and ensure the right to a fair trial.

According to the Embassy, the legislation contravenes key provisions of the Fourth Geneva Convention, particularly those safeguarding detainees in occupied territories, as well as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which guarantees due process and the protection of life. The statement warned that such legal changes risk undermining the international rules-based order and eroding long-established norms governing armed conflict and human rights protections.

Ambassador Tamer Almassri described the law as a “tool of political persecution” and argued that it constitutes a war crime under international jurisdiction. He said the measure forms part of a broader pattern of escalating Israeli policies across the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem. Almassri further accused Israeli authorities of attempting to legitimize extrajudicial killings, calling the move a reflection of “moral depravity” and a violation of universal human values.

Despite the development, the Embassy maintained that such actions would not weaken the resolve of the Palestinian people. It reaffirmed their commitment to what it described as a legitimate struggle for freedom, independence, and the establishment of a sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital.

The State of Palestine has called on the international community to intervene by halting the implementation of the legislation and ensuring accountability for alleged violations against detainees. It urged global actors to uphold their legal and humanitarian obligations, including imposing sanctions in response to what it described as systematic practices of torture and extrajudicial killings within Israeli detention systems.
