NetOne Salutes Media at Festive Luncheon

NetOne Cellular on Friday, 12 December, hosted a media appreciation lunch at the elegant Paramount Signature in Harare, in a gesture aimed at recognizing the critical role journalists continue to play in shaping public discourse and amplifying national development stories throughout the year.

The relaxed yet celebratory gathering brought together journalists from print, broadcast and digital media platforms, offering an opportunity for engagement beyond the usual newsroom and press briefing environment. They were treated to a scrumptious spread of food and drinks, complemented by a generous airtime gift, a surprise that was warmly received and described by many as a fitting way to usher in the festive season.

Speaking at the event, NetOne Public Relations Manager, Ernest Magadzire, expressed heartfelt appreciation to members of the media for their professionalism, collaboration and commitment to balanced reporting. He acknowledged that the relationship between NetOne and the media has grown over the years, evolving into a partnership built on mutual respect, open communication and shared national interests.

Magadzire noted that journalists have been instrumental in telling NetOne’s story, from network expansion milestones to community-focused initiatives, while also holding the company accountable in line with the principles of responsible journalism. He emphasized that such engagement strengthens transparency and helps ensure that the telecommunications provider remains responsive to the needs of Zimbabweans.

Beyond the appreciation message, the luncheon also reflected NetOne’s strong performance and growing footprints across the country. Over the past year, the state-owned mobile network operator has continued to invest in network modernisation and infrastructure upgrades, resulting in improved connectivity, wider coverage and more reliable services, particularly in previously underserved rural areas. NetOne has expanded its 4G/LTE network, enhanced data speeds and improved call quality, aligning with national digital transformation goals.

The company has also diversified its service offerings, providing affordable voice and data packages, mobile financial services through OneMoney, enterprise solutions, and internet services that support businesses, institutions and households nationwide. These services have played a key role in driving digital inclusion, supporting e-learning, e-health, e-commerce and remote working across Zimbabwe.

The media appreciation lunch was NetOne’s recognition that its success is closely linked to effective communication and public trust. As the year draws to a close, the company reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships with the media while continuing to deliver innovative, accessible and reliable telecommunications services to Zimbabweans.

For journalists in attendance, the event was a moment of gratitude and a reminder of the shared responsibility between the media and service providers in informing, connecting and empowering the nation.
