The State of Kuwait’s ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Salem Shibeeb Akhaledi has equated the situation in Gaza to the days of apartheid in South Africa.

Speaking during commemorations to mark Kuwait’s 63rd National Day held at Rainbow Towers in Harare, Ambassador Salem Shibeeb Akhaledi said what is happening in Gaza is worse and more brutal than that of the days of apartheid.

“For almost five months the inhuman aggression by Israel continues against our brothers and sisters in the Gaza Strip, who have been under siege for more than 17 years. The aggression has led to about 30 000 killed, over and above an untold number of injured, as well as the destruction of about 85 percent of houses of Palestinians, who now have to live in the open and in desert camps. Bombs dropped on Gaza were five times the equivalent of those dropped on Hiroshima in 1945.

“It is noteworthy that the United Nations adopted a resolution in 1975 ‘determining that Zionism is a form of racism and racial discrimination’, classifieds amongst racist movements. And that the Zionist regime in Israel is even more brutal than the then apartheid regime in Pretoria,” bemoaned Ambassador Salem Shibeeb Akhaledi.
