A Zvishavane woman’s life is in danger after she was allegedly poisoned by her husband’s second wife. This story raises questions about the destructive power of jealousy and the lengths people will go to for love.
For the past two weeks, Tsitsi Jubani (41) from Zvishavane has been plagued by an alarming and baffling illness. Her once-flat stomach has ballooned, making her appear heavily pregnant. Jubani convinced that this is not just a medical condition -but believes that her husband’s second wife, Anamore Sithole has bewitched her.
Jubani, who has three children with her husband Tichaona Chiwa, told her story with emotion and confusion.
“l began to feel ill after eating the meal I had prepared. I could not understand what was happening to me. I felt dizzy, nauseous, and weak. I suspected that something was wrong, but I never imagined that I had been poisoned. My husband’s second wife (name provided must have put something in the food”
“I visited multiple prophets, and each one told me the same thing that I had been poisoned by my husband’s second wife. They could what was wrong but not how to fix it, she said”.
After her mysterious illness, Jubani said her husband abandon her and fled to Harare with his new wife.
“I was devastated when my husband left me and our children in Mashava, fleeing to Harare with his second wife and leaving us to fend for ourselves.”
“My children’s education was disrupted by the sudden changes in our lives, but the Mashava community rallied around us, bringing us food, caring for the children, and even giving me money to travel back to Zvishavane, she said “.
“In an interview with Jubani’s sister, Getrude Ndlovu explained that the swelling in Jubani’s stomach is causing her a great deal of pain.
“It is heartbreaking to see her suffering like this, she is unable to urinate or have a bowel movement.”
“We did not have enough money to go to the hospital for Tsitsi’s scan, but our local councilor Shumba and a local prophet Ndigo donated money to cover the costs”.
Ndlovu added that “When we arrived at the hospital, the doctor said that my sister’s stomach was full of water which needed to be drained. He also stated that her liver had been damaged by poison and she now left with 8centimetres from the normal size of 18centimetres”.
“We are appealing for assistance for Tsitsi’s medical treatment, any donation no matter how small would be greatly appreciated, she said”
Councilor Evelyn Shumba of Ward 6, one of the people who has been helping Jubani said she is saddened to see another woman in such pain.
“I could not bear to see another woman suffer like this, so I helped her with the little money I had, even though it was not much, said Shumba”.
